ON THE MARGINS An event for illustrators at the ARTELEKU Centre: workshop on how to create a silent strip An intensive workshop in which we will be learning and analysing the techniques used to create silent comic strips, i.e. those capable of telling a story using only illustrations. The aim here is use the workshop as a springboard for producing 8 silent strips related to the new types of exclusion that are currently emerging in our modern world. We are living in a constantly changing world in which social and political ideas and general mindsets are rendered quickly out of date. It is a time of endless opportunity, yet at the same time, it is also a period in which new types of exclusion and marginalisation are cropping up every day. Thus, taking social exclusion as their starting point, each participant in the workshop will be expected to create their own silent comic strip album (consisting of 14 double pages, 41 cm x 22 cm, title page, introduction, flyleaves, cover and back page). WHO CAN TAKE PART? 8 artists will be accepted onto the course. General requisites: Participants must be from the Basque Country. Preference will be given to members of the Galtzagorri Association. Preference will also be given to members of the Basque Illustrators' Association. Participants must have published at least one book. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? The applicants chosen by the judges' panel to participate in the workshop will do so free of charge. A grant will be provided to each which will cover both the training provided during the workshop and the production and exhibition of the strips created during the process. HOW CAN I PUT MY NAME DOWN? Applicants must send in an explanation of the specific theme they wish to focus on in their album, as well as an outline of the personal project they wish to develop. They should also send in two fully finished pages of the album they wish to complete. In addition to this, they also need to provide the following documents: A CV A copy of their National ID Card An e-mail address A telephone number Applicants for the workshop should send triplicate copies of the requested documents in CD format to the following address: Galtzagorri Elkartera: Zemoria kalea, 25, behea. 20.013 Donostia
