The library that the artist Pepe Espaliú donated to Arteleku, where it has been kept until now, has been handed over to his relatives. The collection will be kept at the centre named after the artist in Cordoba.
The relationship between Pepe Espaliú and Arteleku dates back to 1989, when he took part in a workshop run by Juan Muñoz. Three years later, Pepe Espaliú would then run the workshop entitled The Residual Desire: Parables of the Denouement.
On 26 September of that same year, 1992, Pepe Espaliú put on The Carrying, the action/performance held in the city during the San Sebastián Film Festival. During that action/performance, Pepe Espaliú was carried along a route (from the Hotel María Cristina to the Alderdi Eder Park) by couples with their arms interlinked to form a chair, so that he did not touch the floor at any point along the route. The action/performance sought to get society engaged in the AIDS debate at a time when the disease was stigmatised.
Before his death in 1993, Pepe Espaliú donated his library to Arteleku-Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, which undertook to conserve, activate and disseminate it.
